Fitness Tips - How to Stay Motivated!

Hi Guys and welcome to another Blog post!

I am in no way an expert when it comes to fitness and healthy eating, but I do know that I have certainly found these tips helpful on my fitness journey. Motivation is something that I really struggled with. Before now I had tried to get into fitness a number of times but I just kept giving up. The tips that I am about to share with you have really helped me to stay on track and stay motivated.

Tip No.1

Follow fitness accounts on social media. Seeing pictures of other peoples transformations make me want to follow in their footsteps. Seeing how far other people have come helps you realise that it is possible and if they can do it, why can't you?

Tip No.2

Take regular pictures of your progress. Even though you may not feel as though you are seeing results, when you compare before and after pictures you realise that actually you are making progress and this this gives you the motivation to carry on. Without these pictures you will feel as though nothing is working and you are more likely to give up.

Tip No.3

Exercise in the morning. When I do my exercise first thing, I feel as though I am much more careful about what I eat throughout the day. If I leave my fitness until the end of the day, I am much more likely to reach for that packet of biscuits or open that tub of ice cream because I just say to myself, "It's okay, I'm going to go for a run later." Whereas if I have gone for my run in the morning I will be put off these tasty treats as I don't want to waste my workout.

Tip No.4

Mix up your fitness routine. I don't have a set plan that I follow every day or every week, I like to change up the exercise that I am doing to get some variety. Obviously, if you are doing the same thing everyday you are going to get bored and lose motivation.

Tip No.5

This kind of leads on from Tip No.4 and that is to make sure that you allow yourself some rest days. Don't work yourself so hard that you are sore and worn out. If you are working out everyday and not giving yourself enough rest, you will find that your workouts are less effective because you just won't have enough energy.

Tip No.6

Use smartphone apps. I have a number of fitness apps on my phone and I will link these below so that you can have a look into them if you're interested. I find that having an app on my phone helps me to stay motivated as I will get a pop up every so often saying "you haven't trained your abs in 4 days" or " you've reached 75% of your daily step goal today." These sorts of notifications give you a gentle reminder to train and a pat on the back. Some of the apps, such as MapMyRun and MyFitnessPal, also help you to track your progress, giving you that extra push.

The apps I use:

Abs Workouts
Leg Workouts
MapMyRun
Swiss Ball
MyFitnessPal

Tip No.7

Don't just look at the number on the scales, listen to your body. Muscle mass weighs more than body fat, so even if you are losing fat you are more than likely also building muscle. This means that when you look at the scales you could have gained weight. Don't let this put you down! Take a look in the mirror, how do you feel? If you feel good and are happy with the way your body looks, then don't let the number on those scales fool you.

Tip No.8

Do you have a busy life? Don't worry, you can still keep fit and look good! Sometime it is hard to find time in the day to exercise and this can knock your motivation. On top of working full time I am also studying for exams, so I don't always have a lot of time to workout. On days where I am limited on time I like to perform a HIIT circuit, which only takes 10-15 minutes of my day, or some form of quick cardio, such as a 10 minute run or something as simple as some jumping jacks. Something is better than nothing!

Tip No.9

Treat yourself to a new fitness outfit. I always find that when I buy a new outfit to work out in that I am much more motivated to exercise because I want to wear my new gear. If you're anything like me and love to shop, then this tip is perfect for you. You can never have too many clothes!

Tip No.10

Find something that you enjoy. Don't just go for a run because so and so is running. If you don't enjoy the exercise that you are doing, then you are not going to be motivated to do it. Experiment with different forms of exercise until you find the one that suits you.

I hope that these tips help you to get motivated and start training. If you want something bad enough and are prepared to work for it, then you will get there. Don't let anyone or anything set you back! Remember it's how YOU feel and what YOU want. 1. This is a well written post. I know keeping my big sister motivated, and focused gets tricky. Maybe this will help her. She is trying to get into the U.S. Navy, so fitness is important.
