7 Easy Changes for a Healthier Lifestyle!

Hi Guys and welcome to another Blog post!

I have never been one the fittest. I used to dread PE lessons at school, I would spend most of my day sitting in bed and I always seem to be able to come up with an excuse to avoid exercise. I thought it would be a good idea to share just a few small day-to-day changes that I have made to lead to a healthier lifestyle.

1) Take the stairs instead of the lift/escalator. I know it can be tempting if you have the option, but try and go for the stairs. Simple things like this will help to increase your fitness and keep you active.

2) If you have an office job, as I do, and are sitting around for long periods of time, make sure to drink plenty of fluids. If you are drinking a lot, then you will be forced to get up from your desk every hour or so to go to the toilet. This will get you up and moving during the day, so you are not just sat in your chair. Plus drinking plenty of water is really good for your body and helps to flush out toxins, which leads me onto my next tip.

3) Do you find it difficult to drink enough water? I know I certainly do. I keep a mason jar with a straw or a bottle of water by me all the time. This way you can just sip on your water and I find that I tend to drink without even realising it just because it's there. Before I started doing this I found that I would just forget and I was only having a drink with my meals.

4) If your destination is within walking distance, then walk instead of taking the car. This can be difficult when you have access to a vehicle, but you will find that you will have a lot more energy and feel much better in yourself.

5) If you need a snack it is very easy to just reach for a packet of crisps or a biscuit. Don't! Get yourself some nuts or dried fruit and pick at these instead. These are just as easy to grab and are a much healthier option. Plus you still get that crunch that we all love! Again, if you have an office job and find yourself reaching for snacks all of the time, then just don't take them in the first place. Fill your bag with fruit so that you have no option but to make a healthier choice.

6) Wear your workout clothes around the house. Even if you are not planning on doing any exercise, put on your fitness gear. I find that I just feel a lot more active and I don't seem to laze about as much. This is definitely psychological, but hey, it works!

7) Stop taking sugar in hot drinks. I used to have 2 sugars in tea and coffee, but I now have none in either. I didn't just cut this out straight away, I gradually added less and less. I started by dropping from 2 sugars to 1, then to 1/2 a teaspoon and then down to nothing. This allows your taste buds to adapt. If you just suddenly cut out the sugar, then it will taste very bitter and you are more likely to add the sugar back in again. I have 4-6 cups of tea and coffee a day when I'm at work, which was 8-12 teaspoons of sugar! You can cut a lot of sugar from your diet just by removing it from your drink and you'll barely even notice.

I hope these small, everyday changes have given you some ideas on how to improve your lifestyle. They are very simple and you'll hardly even notice that you're doing them.
