Blogmas Day 19 - Winter Fitness Excuses and How to Avoid Them!

Hi Guys and welcome to Blogmas Day 19!

Winter can be a very difficult time to motivate yourself to stay fit, but I'm here to help you avoid those common winter excuses. I have been pretty rubbish at doing any exercise over the past few months, so lets work on it together.

"It's cold."

Wrap up! There are plenty of fitness clothes out there that counter for cold weather. So get yourself some jumpers, long leggings and tops with sleeves, and get out there. Or, if you really don't want to go outside, then do some indoor fitness. There are loads of apps out there with exercises that you can easily do in your living room or on your bedroom floor. You can get fit indoors and you don't even have to spend a penny or get cold. Win win!

"It's too dark."

Now I can understand for people who are at school or work, during winter it is dark when we get up and dark when we get home. But, what's stopping you from doing something inside the comfort of your own home, like I have previously mentioned? And, what's stopping you from going out for your run over the weekend? No excuses ladies and gents!

"I'm going to be eating so much rubbish; it's not worth it."

Wrong! This is even more reason to get up and do some exercise. Of course we are all going to be eating more over Christmas, but burning off those extra calories will help you to maintain your weight and keep those muffin tops away.

Speaking of muffin tops, "I'm going to be wearing big jumpers and coats 99% of the time, so it doesn't matter if I gain a few extra pounds."

Do it for you! It doesn't matter who else is going to see you. I exercise because I want to feel good in my own skin. I don't care how other people see me. Plus when summer rolls around, you are going to be wishing that you had kept on top of your exercise plan. Think about it. If you are keeping fit all year round, then you won't have to work so hard for your summer body.

"I'll start next year."

This is a very common excuse. I will quite often find myself saying, 'I'll start tomorrow' or 'on Monday' or 'next week'. Just do it! The earlier you start, the more likely you will be to stick to it. Don't keep putting it off, bite the bullet and go for that run.

"I'm ill."

This one is actually a reasonable excuse, but I find myself dragging it out. Winter is a very common time for colds and flu. If you do become ill, do not go out in the cold for a run! Give yourself a few days to recover and then get back to working out. I tell myself, after a few days wrapped up warm inside, that I am still too ill to exercise when in theory I could probably quite easily do something. Start off gently, you don't want to push yourself too hard after being ill. You are likely to have less energy and will not get as much out of your workout. I would definitely say not to go straight into cardio off the back of being ill. Start with some light weight training or even something as simple as crunches or squats.

I think I wrote this post to try and convince myself to get out and do some fitness, but I hope you guys have found it useful too! Head over to my social media, which will be linked below as always, so that you never miss a new post. 6 sleeps to go...

Catch you tomorrow for Day 20!
